1. What is the difference between hand-drawn and hand-stamped batik?

• Hand-drawn (batik tulis): Made entirely by hand using a canting (copper pen). Each piece takes weeks to months. No two are identical. Highest quality and price.

• Hand-stamped (batik cap): Made using copper stamps. Faster and more affordable. Still handmade — just stamped rather than drawn.

• Combination (batik kombinasi): Uses both techniques. Typically hand-drawn main motifs with stamped filler patterns.

2. Is your batik authentic or printed? 100% authentic. We do not sell printed batik (textile prints that mimic batik patterns). Every product listing clearly states the technique: tulis, cap, or kombinasi. Look for wax cracks and reverse-side penetration — authentic batik has both.

3. What fabrics are used for batik? Common fabrics include premium cotton (primissima, prima), rayon, silk, and voile. Each product page specifies fabric type and weight (grams per square meter). Cotton is ideal for everyday wear, silk for formal occasions, rayon for drapey dresses and scarves.

4. How do I care for batik fabric?

• Hand wash cold or machine wash gentle (inside-out in a mesh bag)

• Use mild detergent (no bleach or optical brighteners)

• Air dry away from direct sunlight — the sun will fade natural dyes

• Iron on cotton setting (medium-high) while slightly damp

5. Will the colors bleed or fade? Traditional batik uses natural or low-impact reactive dyes. First 2-3 washes may release excess dye — wash separately with cold water and a color catcher sheet. After 3-4 washes, the fabric will be stable. Avoid prolonged sun exposure to prevent fading.

6. Do you ship batik to the USA? Yes, we ship directly from Indonesia to all 50 US states. Delivery typically takes 7–14 business days. No proxy service is required. Batik fabrics are shipped rolled (not folded) to prevent creasing.

7. Will I have to pay US customs duties on batik? You may be charged import duties by US Customs and Border Protection. Orders under $800 USD typically enter duty-free under the de minimis exemption. Any fees are your responsibility. Batik fabric/clothing usually falls under low or zero duty rates (HTS codes 62xx or 52xx).

8. Can I return or exchange batik? Unwashed, unworn batik with original tags may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Fabric by the meter can be returned uncut and in original condition. Custom-made or personalized batik is non-returnable. Please review our full return policy before purchasing.

13. How can I tell if batik is authentic vs printed? Four quick tests:

1. Look for wax cracks: Fine web-like lines where wax cracked during dyeing

2. Check the reverse side: Authentic batik penetrates through — both sides look similar

3. Feel the texture: Wax residue creates slight stiffness, especially in new batik

4. Smell test (gentle heat): Warm the fabric with a hairdryer — authentic batik smells like beeswax or paraffin

If it fails these tests, it's likely printed batik, not handmade.

14. What is the difference between Javanese batik regions?

• Yogyakarta: Traditional sogan (brown/cream) colors, classic motifs like Parang and Kawung

• Solo (Surakarta): Similar to Yogyakarta but brighter whites, more geometric patterns
